Pony.ai Secures First Citywide License for Driverless Robotaxis in Shenzhen
Pony.ai has become the first autonomous driving company to receive a citywide license for commercial driverless robotaxi operations in Shenzhen. The permit, awarded jointly with local taxi operator Xihu Group, marks a significant step toward scalable autonomous transportation in China's tech hub.
Initial services will launch in Nanshan, Qianhai, and Baoan districts before expanding citywide. The company plans to deploy over 1,000 seventh-generation robotaxis in coming years, building on its existing fleet of 720 vehicles. "This project implements our asset-light, AI-empowered commercialization model," said CEO James Peng, emphasizing technology-driven transformation of traditional transport operators.
